Walt Disney World Lightning Lane: how to buy it and is it worth it

In short

Lightning Lane is a paid shorter line. Multi Pass books up to 3 rides with arrival windows; Single Pass buys one of the most popular rides on its own (up to 2 a day); Premier Pass gets you onto every Lightning Lane ride in one park once, with no windows to book. Guests of Disney hotels and Swan, Dolphin, Swan Reserve and Shades of Green buy 7 days ahead of the stay at 07:00 Eastern, for up to 14 days at once; everyone else buys 3 days ahead. Disney publishes no fixed price: it changes by date and park, and the My Disney Experience app shows it up to 21 days ahead.

The three passes

  • Lightning Lane Multi Pass

    Book up to 3 rides and arrival windows at a time in one park; after using one you can book another (if there's room). With Park Hopper you can pick one in another park.

  • Lightning Lane Single Pass

    Buy one of the most popular rides on its own (Multi Pass doesn't include them), up to 2 a day.

  • Lightning Lane Premier Pass

    One park, one day: each Lightning Lane ride once, no windows to book. Very limited.

When can you buy?

  • Disney hotels, Swan, Dolphin, Swan Reserve and Shades of Green: from 7 days before check-in, for the whole stay (up to 14 days) at once.
  • Everyone else: 3 days before each park day (a date-based ticket counts from its first day).
  • Sales open at 07:00 Eastern, in the My Disney Experience app only, and you need valid tickets first.

How much?

Disney publishes no fixed price: Multi Pass and Premier Pass are priced by park and date, Single Pass by ride and date, and peak periods such as holidays cost more. The My Disney Experience app shows prices for your days up to 21 days ahead. We found no price range published by Disney, so we show no figure.

Should you buy it?

Decide by three things:

  1. How busy is it?

    On days the crowd calendar marks busy, buy Multi Pass: the regular lines for popular rides get long.

    On low days you can skip it: be there at opening and head for your favourite ride first, using early entry if you stay on site.

  2. Your kids

    Check which rides your kids are tall enough for first: Lightning Lane can't help on a ride they can't go on. Multi Pass pays off on the gentle rides with long lines; 5 of the 5 Single Pass rides have a height requirement.

  3. How many days?

    With one day per park, Lightning Lane is worth more. With two days in the same park, you can buy it for the busier day only.

Yes. Many Chinese guides call Lightning Lane 快速通道, "fast lane".
